Elisabet Arnó
Elisabet Arnó-Macià is associate professor of English for Specific Purposes at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain). Her research has focused on different topics: language awareness in language education (in her PhD thesis), English for Specific Purposes, technology in language learning/teaching, the use of languages at international universities, and English as a medium of instruction in higher education. This research is reflected in numerous publications and conference presentations. The combination of research with lecturing and teaching innovation has led her to co-author two university textbooks and to coordinate several funded projects on innovative teaching (between 2003 and 2012), which involved the development of an online environment for learning academic English. In addition, she is a participant (2012-) in the Trans-Atlantic and Pacific Project (led by North Dakota State University), a network of technical communication and translation lecturers and students from different countries, which consists of tele-collaboration activities within specialised professional communication. She has also been involved in AELFE (European Association of Languages for Specific Purposes) where she served as Secretary (2003-2009) and President (2009-2015) of the Association.
Her research interests include technical and academic communication, the use of technology in languages for specific purposes, and internationalization and multilingualism in higher education, in particular the implementation of English-Medium Instruction. Her publications include the co-edition of a book on Technology in Languages for Specific Purposes by Springer, book chapters in Springer and Peter Lang, journal articles in The Modern Language Journal, English for Specific Purposes, Journal of English for Academic Purposes, Language Learning Journal, among others.

Her teaching activity has developed at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) at the School of Engineering of Vilanova i la Geltrú, where she has designed and taught a wide range of courses on technical communication. In addition, she has taught online courses both at UPC and at UOC (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) and she has been a guest lecturer on master’s courses at Universitat de Lleida, Universitat Rovira i Virgili and University of Antwerp (Artesis University College). She has also been involved in the development and teaching of professional development courses for content lecturers involved in English-Medium Instruction.
